Certification Safety data sheet of chemical products

Safety data sheet of chemical products

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)this an international document that is a mandatory part of the technical documentation for chemical products (substance, mixture, material, industrial waste) and is designed to provide the consumer with reliable information on the safety of industrial use, storage, transportation and disposal of chemical products, as well as their use for domestic purposes .

The safety data sheet is developed for products used in everyday life or industry and necessarily contains information that is necessary to ensure the safety of people's lives and the safety of health, property and the environment.

The presence of the document is necessary for cargo transportation, customs clearance and when obtaining other permits.

The safety data sheet of chemical products contains the following information:

  • about physical characteristics (melting point, boiling point, ignition point, etc.);
  • about toxicity;
  • about the impact on health;
  • on how to provide first aid;
  • about chemical activity;
  • about storage conditions;
  • about the conditions of processing;
  • on the use of protective equipment and special equipment;
  • about methods of neutralization.

The production of a Safety Data Sheet for chemical products is the responsibility of the company that produces this chemical product, so several documents can be found for the same substanceMSDS.
They may differ in volume, detail - but in terms of safety, semantic differences, as a rule, are not very significant.

The material safety certificate contains reliable information in the part that describes the danger of the substance, the rules for working with it, and methods of neutralization.

The Material Safety Data Sheet is not the primary information source; it cannot serve as an authoritative guide to the physicochemical characteristics of substances. In this part, it should be considered as a reference only.

You can download the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the product you are interested in on the websitehttp://www.msds.com/.

On the territory of the Russian Federation Until 1993, there were no unified documents that would contain all the information about chemical products, about all their hazardous properties, as well as about their safe handling in an emergency.
For this reason, information on hazardous substances was scattered, making it difficult to access it at the right time.

In 1993, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) were introduced in the Russian Federation as a mandatory part of the technical documentation for chemical products, by analogy with the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). At the initiative of the State Standard, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Gosgortekhnadzor, GOST R 50587-93 “Substance (material) safety data sheet” was put into effect. Basic provisions. Information on ensuring safety during production, use, storage, transportation, disposal”, which established the basic requirements for industrial security.

In 1995, on its basis, the interstate standard GOST 30333-95 was adopted with the same name.

In 2007-2009 developed and implemented its revised version -GOST 30333-2007 Safety Data Sheet for Chemical Products. General requirements"which is still in effect today. RequirementsGOST 30333to the presentation form and content of the SDS are harmonized with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemical Products (GHS).

The RF PB fully complying with the GHS has the following national features:

- the title page of the established sample, containing all the basic information about the hazardous properties of the product;

- a list of information sources used, with the help of which the PB is compiled: in this case, it is possible to check the origin of this or information information;

- expert examination of the food security for compliance with international and national requirements and subsequent registration in the Information and Analytical Center "Safety of Substances and Materials".

The main objective of the Safety Data Sheet for chemical products is to inform the consumer about the use, storage, transportation and disposal of chemical products. This document is an obligatory part of the technical documentation for chemical products.

The safety data sheet must contain reliable information presented in an accessible and concise form, sufficient for the consumer to take the necessary measures to ensure the protection of human health and their safety at the workplace, environmental protection at all stages of the life cycle of chemical products, including their disposal as waste, and must contribute to the elimination of technical barriers to trade in potentially hazardous chemical products, as it is an integral part of the UN Recommendations "Globally Harmonized System of Hazard Classification and Labeling of Chemical Products (GHS)".

One safety data sheet is issued per unit of chemical products and includes the entire brand range of these products.
However, in all of the following cases, the issuance of separate safety data sheets is required:
- product brands differ in aggregate state
- product brands require different permits
- product brands differ from each other in composition or hazardous properties
- products are manufactured according to various regulatory documents.
Additionally, it should be noted that: drugs; minerals (in the state of occurrence); chemical products according to the closed nomenclature; food products; perfumery and cosmetic products; emitting, nuclear, as well as radioactive substances - do not require a safety data sheet.
